Andy's Third Street
Cafe An anonymous but hungry reader exhorted us to get out a little earlier and try some local breakfast spots. We at Ithaca Eats are not terribly voracious breakfast eaters; a good bagel with soft cream cheese is a great start to the day. Not really a sit down restaurant meal. Still, sometimes the indulgence of pancakes and eggs are a carboloaded treat, although they tend to stay around awhile inside and make for a logey day. On just such a recent logey day we stopped by Andy's Third Street Cafe, which opened several years ago to breakfast fanfare, but has since expanded into the other two meals of the day. Andy's has also expanded into big screen television and sports bar cliche territory, perhaps a good marketing move, but not really what we're looking for at breakfast,or any other time to be frank. Andy makes a good omelet, plain and simple. It is plump and the ingredients are generous in quality and quantity. The home fries are the right sort, too, well spiced without swimming in grease. And the juice is good. That's about all we can say about breakfast -- maybe it's the fault of our own limited palate. Despite its lowbrow
surroundings, Andy's is a step above the Friendly's and Manos Diners of
the world. And it's just nearby the DMV, in case you're queuing up early
for your new plates. |
